Give me the information, now!

We’ve all heard it, read it, and hopefully practiced it… getting testing involved early.  There are many ways of doing this, but I’d like to give you a very simple example of one.

This will be a nice short post as I’d like to share some recent testing excitement!

Here it is: Email (I can hear the sharp intake of breath from here).

Okay, so maybe I should elaborate just a little bit.

One thing I often do is request to be on mailing lists.  Be it To or CC… I want to have access to the information going around.  This is a very individual choice, as some people HATE having a full inbox and therefore don’t want emails unless absolutely required.  But how do you know that it won’t be absolutely required in a month’s time?

There have been several occasions in my current role where I have simply skimmed over the content of an email and filed it away in the appropriate folder, as I didn’t need it there and then.  However, a week later, the issue is raised in a meeting and even though I only skimmed over it, I’m already aware of it and may possibly have input.  This is an alternative to not knowing what is being talked about and either ‘letting it slide’ on by or asking for a run down (which in most cases people don’t like).

So, consider it a very easy way to get engaged earlier without imposing on your stakeholders a great deal (not too much effort to add an extra name on a mail list, is it?).

Until next time.
